Lucky Harmers (82) vs. Smokin' Guns (83)

Our two home teams, the Smokin' Guns and Lucky Harmers, met on the track for the second time this season at the PLEX on Saturday, May 17. The two teams, evenly matched in experience and skill, put on another great bout that went down to the final jam of the game.

The Harmers came out strong in the first period, scoring 9 points to the Gun's 1 after the first jam, and they mantained a 5 to 10 point lead throughout the entire first period. With 5 minutes to go, the Guns' jammers put some big points on the board and captured the lead going into half time, 37-34.

At the start of the second half, the Hamers came out strong again, easily recapturing their 10 point lead and maintained it until the last 5 minutes of the period. Suffering a jammer penalty, Harmer's captain Sugar Guns was sent to the box, leaving Enya Grave, the Guns' captain, alone on the track to rack up 10 big points, capturing the first Guns' lead since half time, 80-79.

With a little over 2 minutes remaining, both teams put out veteran jammers: Pushycat for the Harmers and Ruby Killer for the Guns. Pushycat jumped out in front to gain lead jammer status and made her way around to the pack again with Ruby Killer right on her tail. Harmer's blockers Maddie Warbucks and Dee Vour held Ruby scoreless for several seconds as Pushycat easily cut through the pack, only to get caught up behind GoGo Beware and Oreo SlamHER at the front of the pack. As both jammers struggled to get around the defending blockers, time was running out. With 30 seconds left in the game and only seconds left in the jam, both jammers broke free. Pushycat called the jam, hoping that she had outscored Ruby by one point, but Ruby put forth a burst of speed and passed the last Hamer's blocker before the 4th whistle sounded to end the jam. Both jammers scored 4 points, allowing the Guns to maintain their one-point lead. With only 20 seconds left on the period clock, there was not time to start another jam.
